Asking lawyers to change a routine is a daunting task. Getting their buy-in to switch from paper to digital would seem almost impossible.

To make it easy to adopt the new E-Billing system, Annex Consulting Group hired us to help Legal Services Society of BC (LSS) create a GUI that simulated the already familiar paper forms.

After LSS provided HTML and screen mock ups of the beta version, we fine-tuned the mockups to not only improve the usability of the forms but also strengthen the organization's brand by standardizing fonts, colours and content grouping. And to minimize the use of images and give LSS optimal control of maintaining the application's GUI, extensive Cascading Style Sheets were also implemented.

Results

Functionally, the new system saves time and money. Many pilot users found that cost for photocopies and postage was reduced significantly including a noted reduction in errors and payment lag time.

The feedback on the usability of the system has also been very positive. One lawyer said:
